The story of our little home, orchard, and us.
Since this is my first blog post on this site, I thought I'd start from the beginning.
My name is Rendi. I was born and raised in the small country town of Oakdale, CA "The Cowboy Capital of the World". I spent my childhood running around barefoot on my parents 20 acre ranch, reading under a shade tree by the creek, and attending worship services every Sunday. Fast forward to age 18 when I moved away to attend college at Fresno State. While away, I met a boy at the local church congregation, Andrew Trent. We married right after I graduated, bought a home, and settled in for the next 15 years. During those 15 years we renovated our little cottage, had four babies, and made some wonderful memories. Last summer Andrew approached me about moving away from our little cottage in town, and finding a home in the country for our four babies to grow up on. He really enjoyed visiting my family back home in that quiet country town, and he loved the idea of bringing up our little ducklings in a slower sweeter pace of life.
In August of 2015, that idea became a reality. We were in escrow with our Fresno cottage when we were blessed with the opportunity to purchase a small farm on the outskirts of Oakdale. It is a very modest homestead with two small farmhouses on the property as well as a quaint orchard full of God's bounty.
We started renovating the interior of the Carriage House immediately to accommodate our family of six, and moved in within three weeks of purchasing the home. Our first fall here taught me that the orchard produced so much abundance that I couldn't keep up with the harvesting. That situation inspired me with an idea. For years my husband encouraged me to open a store selling my home décor designs. I never pursued the thought because renting out a space was expensive, and time consuming. I didn't want to take time away from my babies, and put a lot of effort into something away from our home. But now, with our little farm, and a little shed, what if I opened my store and the orchard as a u-pick orchard? That way I can keep my little ducklings our first priority, get help harvesting the orchard, and maybe even make some money to assist my husband! The Vintage Bucket was born.
Our U-Pick Orchard hosts over a dozen varieties of fruits and nuts including pomegranates, apricots, pecans, apples, and more. The gift shop offers antiques, reproductions, and handmade farmhouse décor inspired by sweet simple life in the country. We also offer a tire swing, picnics under a shade tree, and apple picking in the fall.
This country girl is happy to be back home.
